Have you ever thought about going Vegan or Plant-based?


What’s the difference, you ask?


So Vegans don’t consume any animal products or byproducts like seafood, poultry, meat, dairy, eggs, and honey. Although some Vegans still eat honey, that’s a whole different story. 


Plant-Based peeps try and avoid eating meat, poultry, seafood, eggs and dairy, but don’t rule it out completely like Vegans. 


In both cases, this leaves plenty of room to enjoy fruit, veggies, nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, plant-based milk and junk food like pizza, burgers, chips, chocolate, cake, cheese and whatever else you’re craving. Yes, there are literally delicious Vegan versions of everything these days so don’t worry, you won’t be missing out! 


I went Vegan over 4 years ago and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve never felt happier or healthier.  And yes, I get more than enough protein, iron and calcium. Trust me, you can get everything you need and more on a Vegan diet. From all the nutrients you need, to moreish OMG is this really Vegan chocolate, cheese, sausages and burgers that sometimes taste even better than the real thing! Fun fact, Plant-Based meat patties the ‘Impossible Burger’ and the ‘Moving Mountains Burger’ outsold all other meat and vegetarian burger patties in the states and the UK! Now, that’s progress!


With more and more Vegan options popping up every day, it’s getting easier and easier to go Vegan / Plant-Based and still reap all the health benefits. I used to have so many health issues like chronic asthma, fatigue, bronchitis, stomach cramps, gas, bloating, nausea, diarrhea and constipation...just to name a few. Attractive, I know. Literally within months after going Vegan, all my health issues disappeared and they’ve never returned. Life-changing stuff. It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to share my list of 10 REASONS TO GO VEGAN with you...

  1. You have WAY MORE ENERGY

One of the first things people notice is having A LOT more energy. I know I definitely did. I went from living off caffeine to get through the day to not needing any caffeine at all! Vegan / Plant-Based foods are easier to digest AND they give you natural energy. When your body is working hard to digest, it can leave you feeling really lethargic - hello food coma! 

  1. REDUCE your risk of CANCER

We all know someone who’s been affected by cancer. But did you know Vegans have the lowest cancer rates? A study of almost 70,000 people showed Vegans had the lowest risk of all cancers. A 2013 study across 87 counties revealed that consuming animal products increases the risk of cancer. Even the World Health Organisation has said that red and processed meat causes cancer. Scary hey?

  1. You FEEL GREAT about not eating animals

Trillions of animals are bred, raised and killed in painful and cruel ways, just for food. Male baby chicks are ground up alive, gassed, suffocated or crushed to death to make chicken nuggets, just after they’re born. Male baby cows are starved, then slaughtered for veal. Pigs (who are smarter than dogs) are castrated, have their tails chopped off, are hung upside down and bled to death, while conscious, screaming in pain. Animals like pigs, cows, sheep, chickens and goats are affectionate, love to play, love their families and feel fear and pain, just like we do. Knowing that you’re not contributing to this cruelty and suffering feels pretty amazing. 

  1. You live LONGER

People on Vegan diets live up to 14 years longer. Imagine that, 14 more years to tick things off your bucket list and spend more time with the people you love! Plus, this nutrient-dense way of life not only clears up your skin but makes you glow, look younger and healthier. WIN, WIN, WIN!

  1. REDUCE YOUR RISK of heart attacks and strokes

You can reverse heart disease on a Vegan / Plant-Based diet. Studies show Vegans have a lower blood pressure than meat-eating endurance athletes. Plus, eating a healthy Plant-Based diet lowers bad cholesterol too!

  1. It’s easy to LOSE WEIGHT (if you want to)

Studies show Vegans/people on a Plant-Based diet have the lowest BMI’s (body mass indexes). My friend Jennifer Anne Tucker went from a size 22 not being able to walk from joint pain on crutches, to a size 8 running marathons and she’s 50! One of the bonuses about this lifestyle is feeling really light - probably because plant-based diets are high in fiber, which makes you more regular. Cue poo emoji. Plus, yucky digestion issues like diarrhea, constipation, bloating, etc. generally just disappear. #winning

  1. REDUCE your risk of Type 2 DIABETES

According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, “A Plant-Based diet is a powerful tool for preventing, managing, and even reversing type 2 diabetes.”

  1. IMPROVES MEMORY and reduce the risk of dementia

  1. REDUCE JOINT PAIN 

Sadly, roughly 350 million people around the world have arthritis. The good news is, you can reduce the inflammation and pain just by changing what you eat.  A study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association in 2010, showed rheumatoid arthritis patients who followed a vegan diet for 3.5 months, experienced significant improvement in tender and swollen joints, pain, morning stiffness and grip strength. I used to have shooting pain from my feet to my hips, making painful, sleepless nights a regular occurrence. Now I can’t remember the last time my joints and legs hurt!

  1. You’re helping to SAVE THE PLANET!

Animal agriculture is THE leading cause of climate change and the biggest killer of plant and animal life. It’s the main reason why every minute 27 football fields of forest are being burnt and bulldozed, according to the WWF. Killing plant and animal life, making more and more species extinct every year. Researchers at the University of Oxford researchers have said not eating meat and dairy, reduces your carbon footprint by up to 73%!
